A migratory fish THE SHAD is now highly endangered.
Working with UNLOCKING THE SEVERN and the RIVERS AND CANAL TRUST I am embarking on a new series of relief prints to raise awareness to their plight.
Weirs, dams and intakes all impede their passage to the spawning grounds high up on the River Severn.
Upper Lode Weir is near Tweksbury the weir, over which the fish cannot pass, has been broken down at one end and a pale yellow board put in place. The water flow is slower here and the fish sense it, they pass over it clearly visible to the local community who sign up to to count them on their migration upstream in April and early May.

Storm petrels fly in at night to their nests around the Quarry
The stone ‘hotel’ (left of the image) was built to attract them to nest where they could be monitored scientifically.
There are doors at the back and some nest boxes have cameras fitted.

Winner of The Langford Press Printmaking Award at The Society Of Wildlife Artists annual exhibition 2015 Mall Galleries London.
Earth excavated from Crossrail tunnels being dug below London was transported by ship to Wallasea Island Essex. It was transferred by conveyor belt (see drawing) into Cat Trucks which scudded across the vast, flat landscape to where it was needed to sculpt lagoons and ditches. This will protect the land against rising sea levels and create a large wetland wildlife reserve.
I had wonderful week drawing from the sea wall. The wildlife was already moving in, highlights were the Short Eared Owl which flew over while I was drawing the conveyor belt, avocets, yellow wagtails and lots of hares.

The Tiger Collection
I spent a day drawing in the tiger enclosure at the Longleat Safari Park. From the back of my Belingo (with the windows closed!) I could observe and draw all day. Unfortunately a female tiger (Zara) took offence to me studying her and attacked my car. I thought I was invincable but as she slunk backwards, switching her tail, she slashed my tyre with her claws. I had to limp out on 3 wheels!! an expensive afternoon.
